Takoma Horticultural Club Donates Bulbs
The Takoma Horticultural Club selected six local organizations to receive bulb donations valued at a total of $1400.
The Club donated specially selected varieties of high-quality, spring-blooming bulbs imported from Holland, that will do well in the Washington region. Recipients include churches, parks, and nonprofit organizations in the local Takoma Park community and beyond: Sligo Creek Elementary School, Bancroft Elementary School, City of Takoma Park Gardens, Fenton Gateway Park, 7th Street Gardens, and St. Michael's Catholic Church.
Tori Hall, PTA Beautification Committee member at Sligo Creek Elementary School, said, "These bulbs will be a terrific addition to our school this spring --and for years to come." She plans to plant them along the walkway between Sligo Creek Elementary and Silver Spring International Middle School, where they can be seen by all who arrive at school, as well as in the kindergarten courtyard.
Mike Welsh, TP's City Gardener says:
Thank you for the wonderful spring bulbs. The bulbs were planted at the following locations:
- Ruby Giant crocus at Takoma Park Elementary School located on Holly Avenue between Grant & Philadelphia Avenues,
- Glory-of-the-snow, Jeanne D'Arc crocus and Prins Claus crocus on new Maple Avenue streetscape in front
of the community Center,
- all of the botanic tulips and the snowdrops were planted at the Upper Portal
located at the intersection of Takoma Avenue, Piney Branch Road and Eastern Avenue.
